Thanks to the efforts of our Officers our
Civic Association is now protected from the unsightly
parking on front and sides of houses. It is now illegal
(a misdemeanor) to park vehicles or equipment on any
unimproved surface such as grass in front or side yards.
Violations may be reported to 3-1-1 for enforcement by
HPD. The fine for a vehicle in violation of the
ordinance is up to $150 per day.
It does not prohibit parking in your
front or side yards on asphalt, concrete or permeable
pavement. You can still park on your driveway. You can
still park on the street.
The Prohibited Yard Parking Program is
intended to protect neighborhood property values,
prevent damage to the City of Houston’s underground
infrastructure, and to stop the degradation of the
aesthetic appearance of single-family residential areas.
The Prohibited Yard Parking Ordinance
states “vehicle or equipment shall mean any house
trailer, mobile home, motor vehicle, truck, passenger
motor vehicle, motor home, camper cabin, motorcycle,
trailer, boat, farm machinery or similar equipment or
any truck with more than two axles or any trailer,
mobile home or motor home with a length exceeding 20
feet.”
